Giftbit's guiding principles

Giftbit's 7 Cultural Principles

Our culture is the way we relate to customers, partners, and colleagues. What we do is who we are.

We strive to be real about our culture. This ongoing commitment requires observation, intention, and humility.

Our principles guide our daily interactions with all stakeholders. They come from the Giftbit team and what we have all said about Giftbit's work culture.

To deliver practical results, we bias for action and strengths

  • We purposefully develop strengths and choose a mindset of growth.
  • We persist beyond resistance to act, create, and deliver results. Done is better than perfect.
  • Clear goals enable us to select the best methods to achieve them.
  • “Bias for action” entails speed and iteration to get results. “Bias for action” also sometimes means we move imperfectly, even mistakenly, before correcting.
  • Over time, we learn to love our good judgements and our mistakes.

We create prosperity through the work we do

  • We create circumstances that allow others to prosper.
  • We cultivate fulfilling and integrated lives. This allows us to prosper now, not just later.
  • We are present and flexible when work or life calls for special attention and effort—moments of performance.
  • To pursue excellence, we promote physical and mental wellness. Health is wealth.
  • Luck finds us ready.

We listen with curiosity and skill

  • We pause to listen. We work to hear, and be heard, clearly.
  • We seek to accurately understand reality so we can deal with it practically. Clarity is the foundation of consistently good outcomes.
  • We ask naive and challenging questions to support learning and deliver better outcomes.
  • We use experimentation and iteration to find signal out of noise.
  • We are careful about what we communicate so that people can trust and act on what they hear.

We practice candor with kindness

  • Candor and kindness are skills that require regular, intentional practice.
  • Clarity is kind, lack of clarity is unkind. This applies to colleagues, customers, and partners.
  • We make space for candor by creating systems to support it and by reviewing how those systems work in practice.
  • We're candid about what we do well, what's tricky, and what we should do differently.
  • “If we know, you know” - we do what it takes to come to know and then communicate what is necessary with clarity.

We cultivate collaboration and community

  • We deliver great results more quickly when we iterate and collaborate.
  • We are clear in our relationships, intentionally cultivating trust and aligning to reality. This fosters integrity and health in our relationships (’trust battery’)
  • We use moments of discomfort and friction to build more trusting, candid relationships.
  • We invest attention to our relationships and we acknowledge what we see. This helps us stay in sync, collaborate, and create together.

We lead ourselves then others

  • We give people significant ownership and autonomy so they’re empowered to deliver results.
  • We take on challenges to develop discernment and competency.
  • We lead from the inside out. When we lead ourselves well, we can lead others well.
  • We create clarity, give energy, and deliver results.

Remember, we are remarkably human

  • We pursue excellence, not perfection.
  • Excellence is a practice, not a state.
  • We find ways to connect as people, including face-to-face. This helps us listen, build trust, and deliver results.
  • We celebrate strengths and good work.
  • We make our work performance meaningful—something to be proud of.
  • We earn our reputation in moments and over decades.

Rewards work.
