What Happened to GiftCertificates.ca?

GiftCertificates.ca was a Canadian corporate gift card program originally operated by Givex, a Toronto-based gift card and loyalty technology company. Shift4, a payments company, acquired Givex in 2024. Following the acquisition, Shift4 is winding down the GiftCertificates.ca program (rebranded as Giftpass): it stops accepting new orders on September 15, 2026, and closes for good on September 30, 2026.

What happened to Givex?

Givex, the company that built and ran GiftCertificates.ca, was acquired by Shift4 in 2024. Givex's gift card programs, including GiftCertificates.ca/Giftpass, are being discontinued under Shift4's ownership.

What happens to my current GiftCertificates.ca program?

Any program relying on GiftCertificates.ca for ongoing orders needs a new provider before September 15 to avoid a gap in fulfillment.

Existing balances or Giftpasses should be used or redeemed before the September 30 shutdown per their FAQ.

Can I move my rewards program to Giftbit before the deadline?
Yes. Giftbit accounts can be set up and sending rewards the same day, well within the window before GiftCertificates.ca stops taking new orders.
